Summary	0000551: Version 5 for Mac hangs computer
Description	Thanks so much for making a Mac version. At first it ran OK, but then I somehow got the software into a state in which it freezes the computer, requiring a hardware reboot. Very worrisome! I have deleted the software and I am starting over to see if I can figure out what I did wrong.

Patrick Chevalley 09-12-25 11:40 administrator ~0000975	Tank you for your report. It is good if you can give a way to reproduce the problem. To restart with a blank installation you also need to remove all the configuration files. They are in your home directory .virtualmoon folder.

Dave Chapman 09-12-26 03:33 reporter ~0000979	I restarted withy a fresh installation. Atlun started and showed a correct phase of the Moon in a smallish window. When I tried the zoom slider, the upper right hand corner of the window went blank, but the window did not refresh. Then I had a "spinning beach ball". The computer froze and I could not "Force Quit" the application. I had to reboot.

Please download and install: http://ap-i.net/tmp/vmadebug.dmg Then open a terminal window and type: cd /Applications/Virtual_Moon_Atlas gdb atlun.app/Contents/MacOS/atlun at the (gdb) prompt type: run it launch the program and show a few "normal" error about missing fonts. Make the program to crash and return to the terminal window if possible type : bt type : quit Copy here the full trace show in the terminal.

I managed to change the directory manually, but Terminal does not seem to recognize the gdb command. What am I missing? Does it matter that there are multiple user accounts on the machine?

This is available from http://developer.apple.com/technology/xcode.html It is also possible to install gdb from Macports http://www.macports.org/ But maybe the integrate trace will already give some information. Can you run : cd /Applications/Virtual_Moon_Atlas atlun.app/Contents/MacOS/atlun

Patrick Chevalley 10-01-03 10:24 administrator ~0000993	Do the trace include the crash ? I have exactly the same on my computer, there is no unexpected error here. Which graphic card option do you have on your iMac ? Can you try to launch the program and go to the Setup tab on the left pane. Then click the "OpenGL info" button and send me screen shot of the first three tabs (common, buffer, maximum) And to be sure the problem is with the graphic can you run datlun from the same /Applications/Virtual_Moon_Atlas and look if you can browse the database or change the selection options.

It is difficult to help because the computer freezes and requires hardware reboot. I am not sure what you mesan by then left pane: all I see is the atlun window. (See uploaded GIF.)

I see on you screen shot that Dynamic Relief is active, so you can open the Configuration menu ? Can you try to return to default setting by removing the file .virtualmoon/vma.rc in your home folder.
