| Summary | 0000581: Lock on sun behaves as though it is lock on chart position | ||||
| Description | Expected the sun to remain centered in the chart display with the passage of time if chose to lock onto sun. Furthermore expect the telescope cross hair to remain locked to the sun when telescope control panel is turned on and connected and the tracking is green. Allowing time to pass naturally or using the accelerated time step of say one hour you can see the sun move relative to the chart. The telescope cross hair is locked to the chart not the sun as asked for when pressed on track sun. When you place your mouse on the sun and right click is says unlock chart not unlock sun as expected since it was the sun that was locked onto at the start of tracking. Experience is similar for other objects like the moon. Expect to be able to lock onto objects that move across the chart and unlock tracking from those objects. Stuff other then the chart should be lockable and track-able. | ||||
| Steps To Reproduce | <pres on binocular icon> <pres on planets dot button> <pres on planet down arrow highlighting sun> <pres on find> sun appears centered on the chart display, this is good Right click on sun image <select Lock on sun> this is at the bottom of the menu then goes away <press on the sync icon> acknowledge your choice by pressing on <yes> <press on telescope> <press on connect> <press on slew> <press on sync> and select yes Wait an hour. Or fast forward the time with the right arrow time step of 1 hr. The telescope tracking is locked on the chart not the sun as requested. The sun image moves but the telescope cross hair finder and ccd box do not follow the sun, nor does the chart centering follow the sun. Right click on sun dialog says it is about the sun but at the bottom is unlock chart this should say unlock sun as this is what we started doing in the first place. | ||||
| Additional Information | My interest in the software is to see how I will use it to track the sun in an automated daily job eventually using real telescope hardware. | ||||

This is not intended to work this way. If you just lock on Sun without connecting the telescope you can adjust the time as you want, the Sun stay at the center of the map. When you connect the telescope the lock automatically change to lock on the telescope instead of the Sun. This allow the map to automatically follow the telescope position. To lock again on the Sun: click the anchor button to unlock the telescope, click again on the Sun and lock on the Sun. But even in this case there is no option to periodically send goto command to the telescope to keep in sync with the chart position. You may have to write a script for that. If I remember ASCOM provide VBS objects that give planets position. But beware that each goto will be on the opposite direction of the telescope motion, this will lead to important error because of backlash. The best solution for your problem is to change the rate of the mount RA motor to keep tracking on the Sun (make full turn in 24h instead of 23h56) |
