Summary0002306: Update Ra+Dec from planetarium program
DescriptionHello Patrick,

I have tried the option "Update Ra+Dec from planetarium" for a comet with Carte Du Ciel or HNSKY connected. It doesn't seem to work for me. According the documentation it should update the position prior to slew. This doesn't seem to happen. Is it working? No log messages about the updating, Some log messages about RA, DEC updating and possible errors would be helpful.

I have downloaded the latest CDC and CCD Ciel

Once it works for CDC, i will try to fix it for HNSKY.

Hello Han,

A condition to make this work is the object name must be searchable in the planetarium .

When it work you see the following in the log:
2020-03-24T19:05:06.987 1: Initialize target C/2019 Y4 (ATLAS)
2020-03-24T19:05:07.591 3: New coordinates from planetarium: 8h48m25s +68d11m53s

But it not show an error when the object is not found, I fix that now.

Here the change to show an error if the planetarium do not solve the object name:
https://github.com/pchev/ccdciel/commit/b80a7844558db0e5eedb0a2ead91a702a8e800f2

For me the coordinate update work with CdC and HNSKY.
The only difference is CdC require space in the name "C/2019 Y4 (ATLAS)" but HNSKY require no space "C/2019Y4(ATLAS)".

Hello Patrick,

The CDC <-> CCDCiel link works for comets like C/2019 Y4 (ATLAS), but it doesn't work for asteroids like "(5) Astraea". I have imported "(5) Astraea" from the CDC. But a search using the imported name "(5) Astraea" fails in CDC.

I just fixed the name with space problem in HNSKY. The second part of the name is seen as second parameter.

For me the asteroid work with CdC:
2020-03-24T21:12:51.026 1: Initialize target (5) Astraea
2020-03-24T21:12:51.732 3: New coordinates from planetarium: 7h54m48s +21d00m11s

Be careful CdC find asteroid or comet only if they are displayed in the chart.

I also make a change in CdC so it work with and without blank in the name:

Thanks: The message "Planetarium error. Not found!" helps a lot.

>>Be careful CdC find asteroid or comet only if they are displayed in the chart.
It is possible to search for an object in CDC like (5) Astraea (and import it in CCDCiel) but it is not displayed. That's a little confusing. So the CDC manual search finds it but not the CCDCiel search via the server link. In HNSKY the manual and search via the server are equivalent (but comets/asteroid have to be displayed/activated like in CDC).

All works now, topic can be closed.

Right, I make a change in CdC so asteroid display is activated when searching specifically for an asteroid. Same for comet and other object type.
