Summary | 0001367: asteroid list not complete
Description | The asteroid file loaded from the MPC apparently does not contain objects with number >5000; in any case they are not found with the search function and are not plotted on the chart. I tried to increase the number of asteroids in the capture window (default is 5000); apparently it gets 18714 objects, but numbered asteroids with N>5000 are still not found nor plotted. I uncheked also the "Halt after xxx errors" but nothing changes. The limiting magnitude for asteroids is set at 20: I tried several values but nothing changes. Unnumbered objects are allowed.

The default setting for the asteroid elements download is to get the first 5000, added by the NEO and TNO list. This is to not overload the casual asteroid observer with the full list. To get all the asteroid elements open the menu Setup / Internet / Orbital elements and click the MPCORB button. See also http://www.ap-i.net/skychart/en/documentation/internet#orbital_elements |
