Many years ago I make the DSO lines catalog with the help of a function quickly added to the V2 version. To use it you need to install the V2.76 and click Shift+P. The file can be processed with Catgen using the project file available here: http://sourceforge.net/p/skychart/code/HEAD/tree/trunk/tools/cat/DSoutlines/ I can add a script to the V3 to make a similar recording, eventually with more choice to record click coordinates for another use. |

It would be great to add functionality to record and display polygons stored in files in specific folder. The next idea is to add user objects by clicking on the map. Regards |

CatGen already has the feature to draw contours. I tried drawing the contours of two Barnard objects inside M24. CdC v3.10-2854 draws the contours but the labels B92 and B93 are missing. The latest CdC v4.3-5015 doesn't draw anything on the chart at all. Is CatGen broken or am I doing something wrong? ... catgen_CdC310.JPG (26,502 bytes) |

John, Thank you to report that. There was a bug in 4.3 when defining the line catalog in Skychart, there is no problem with your data or Catgen. You can install the fixed version 4.3-5017 from https://vega.ap-i.net/pub/skychart/daily_build/ Please tell me how this work for you. |

Yes, the contours now have labels (cf. att. CdC_403_5017). Merci bien! However, in the contour record all of the Comment, String, and Numeric fields are unused, so data for the Information panel cannot be included. In v3.10, I get around this by superposing a deep-sky object (gray Square for dark nebulae) on top of the contour. The user then gets the Information panel from the square (cf. att. CdC_v310). In v4.3, a possibly better solution might be to include the object center in the contour field (possibly plotted as a special symbol that can be easily turned on and off from the Main Menu). Finally, the OP of this thread notes that the contour lines for bright nebulae and dark nebulae are exactly the same. For a chromatic (color) chart, the user already has the option of using different colors (draw bright nebulae in green and dark nebulae in gray, for example). For a monochromatic (B&W) chart, one suggestion is to have the option of using different lines (draw bright nebulae as a solid line and dark nebulae as a dashed line, for example). ... |
