Summary0001858: Implementation of Astrometry in images with Sky Chart.
DescriptionThe Astrometry Resource in the Sky Charts will make the program take on a large dimension.

It will be used even more and for various astronomy.

The more efficient it is, the more it will be valued.

In a second moment, you can report to the MPC.
Steps To ReproduceThe suggested catalog and great catalog is the UCAC4 which is also suggested for Astrometry by MPC.

This to do Local astrometry.
Features and codes in Python can be used:
http://nova.astrometry.net/api_help

It would be a good option to download reference FITS to use New Astrometry features.

Another way is to use the site itself as it is done in the program Astro ImageJ in that using the "my API key" Astro Image J makes the process of Astrometry both automatic and with the selection of parameters.

It is important to do astrometry in both FITS mono, FITS Cube, and other formats such as PNG, JPG, and others.

The program Astro ImageJ only makes in Mono and saves the result only in Mono it is important that the Sky Chart save in Mono and CUBE RGB.

It is important that the file or files selected for astrometry be able to be adjusted (brightness and contrast) and that the settings apply to the others.

The program that has apparently been discontinued X Parallax VIU has a very practical and functional mechanism of astrometry.

We can make the location of the coordinates by the name of the OBJECT which greatly facilitates the process for beginners.

The list of catalogs is also very good and suggestion.

I made some prints to show the features.

Independent Astronomical Observatory Constellations of the South - Brazil.
Additional InformationI want to make a big public announcement of the SkyChart Software in Brazil so that it can be used in teaching Astronomy both for independent astronomers and in schools.

I have in my Groups of Astronomy and Sky Photography encouraging much to use for the resources and possibility of using great catalogs like Gaia DR1, USNO B, NOMAD.

There is probably many visualization feature that can be added.
In your screenshot I find very interesting to compare a star position from the image and from the catalog.

But I not want to transform Skychart in an image processing software.
For me the plate solving is part of the image processing because it is much more precise if done with the linear image, before stretching.
But if high precision is not require, like to show the image on the map, a stretched or jpeg image is OK.

So I prefer to split your request in two parts, one to improve the display capability in Skychart and one to extend the plate solving function of CCDciel.

My CCD capture software CCDciel already do plate solving using a local Astrometry.net or other software. Then it can send the image to Skychart for display.
The original idea is to help to center an object before capture, but this can be extended to other images.
What I can add to this software is the capability to open non-fits image, like jpg and png.
Then if the telescope coordinates are not available I can open a prompt to enter the coordinates or search for an object name (there is already as a function to call skychart to get the coordinates).

What do you think of this approach?

(1) - There is probably many visualization feature that can be added.

R:
Yes, especially when we use the feature to access external data.
In search by name or position there are three options:
Sinbad
NED
HyperLeda
In a future suggestion I will encourage the addition of other resources such as:
https://mast.stsci.edu/portal/Mashup/Clients/Mast/Portal.html
ESO
Nasa Images and others. A feature of manually setting up other external links would be fine.

R:
Yes. I think we have to work only with FITS.
It is the best standard and not even the tiff I see as reasonable.
For processing I use SÃO Image DS9 and other software.
The Sky Chart should remain as a planisphere but advanced features like astrometry would be of great relevance.

(3) - Então eu prefiro dividir seu pedido em duas partes, uma para melhorar a capacidade de exibição em Skychart e uma para ampliar a função de resolução de placas de CCDciel.

R:
 ok.

R:

Always at your discretion.
But I still believe that the Astrometry function in the Sky Chart itself would add a great deal of use to the program without relying on external resources.

I also suggest that the emphasis be on the FITS format.

I still do not use telescope, only DSLR then the CCDciel is not used. I'll try.

Thanks.

Hello Patrick Chevalley Greetings.

I tested the CCDciel. The Elbrus Stalr Locator has been discontinued and they recommend using PlateSolve2.28.

The Program works well in the APM catalogs and in USNO3 when used alone.

CCDciel is experiencing an error opening PlateSolve2.28 as you can see.
I do not know if some parameter is missing to not present the error but I tried several and I could not.

If the Sky Chart after corrected error save the image in Cube and Mono format will suffice.

I used an image fits that I find to be the best standard.

JPG and PNG would be good but fits is more important.

thankful
