Summary0002642: connecting through stellarmate OS raspberrypi
DescriptionHi,
I've been trying to use CCDciel and remotely connecting my Mac to Indi server through a raspberry pi (an asiair running stellarmate OS). This is also how I use kstars/ekos. I've downloaded indistarter and set up a profile. I then also checked run on a remote computer. By default it has the local and remote ports set to 7624. This is where I'm stuck...
1) What do I put for the remote home name and user name?
2) Don't know what it means to to configure ssh key based authentication... unfortunately I'm not very network/terminal savvy.
3) Also, is it possible to delete a profile once you've made one? I see I can remove/add devices but I'd like to delete a profile I made or at least change its name.

Any help will be very much appreciated.

Thank you,
Eli

Hi,

Yes if you want to run it this way the first point is to configure ssh so you can connect to the RPi from the mac using ssh without giving a password by setting a key pair.
You can probably find better information on the web on how to do that than what I can provide.
Once this is done set in Indistarter the host name or IP address of the RPi, and the name of the user on the RPI. Let both local and remote port to 7624 unless you run a special configuration connecting to multiple server.
You can delete a profile by deleting the corresponding files in ~/.config/indistarter/

If this look too complex, there is other way to start the Indi server on the RPi.
- You can install Indistarter on the RPi and then use a remote desktop to start it.
- Use IndiWebManager installed on the RPi so you can start the server from a web browser: https://indilib.org/support/tutorials/162-indi-web-manager.html
- Use a simple script on the RPi to start the server with the drivers you need.

Hi Patrick,
Thank you for your reply. After some reading and some tinkering it turned out that I just entered the host IP address in the INDI server box under devices setup and I was able to get the drivers for everything that was connected to my RPi. it seems though that with this method I would first have to add the driver in Ekos before it can be available for me in CCDCiel. I really liked the software its as powerful as Kstars and seems much more straightforward. I also do appreciate the tutorials you posted it helped a lot.

So now I'm hoping you can help me with a couple of problems that I ran into. I'd like very much to use the video module to take short planetary videos for lucky imaging. but I had a few issues:

1) Once I went into the video module the whole program slowed down a lot. I constantly had the spinning disk. When I hit preview the program crashed.
2) When I click on more settings I get "access violation" warning box
3) When I try to record it says permission denied.

Can you please advise...

Thank you,
Eli

I think this was fixed after discussion in the forum.
