INDI cannot detect the DSLR image size and you must provide this information.
Look carefully at this page: https://www.indilib.org/ccds/gphoto.html , specifically the Operation chapter.

Also I have a new Indistarter 2.4.2-214 which package the last INDI 2.1.2 for Mac.

Thank you for the informations, I followed the gphoto guide and could configure it successfully and take some pictures. Then I upgraded to the latest version of Indistarter but now the Canon R5 is not detected anymore !
Here are the logs I could get when running indistarter from the terminal:

$ /Applications/IndiStarter.app/Contents/MacOS/indistarter

I couldn't find the previous version to install it back...

The previous package was with INDI 2.0.7 , I make a Indistarter package with this version you can download here:
https://vega.ap-i.net/pub/ccdciel/indistarter/

I only package INDI with Indistarter because there is no other way to install only INDI on Mac.
But I not make any INDI development so I don't know the detail of every driver.

If the problem persist the best way to debug a driver is you install Kstars, look if the problem is the same, and ask for support in the INDI forum.
If it work with the version in Kstars tell me the exact version you install so I can look for differences.

I installed back the version with INDI 2.0.7 and it is working again ie detecting 2 USB devices:

$ /Applications/IndiStarter.app/Contents/MacOS/indistarter

2025-03-10T09:40:47: Driver indi_canon_ccd: Detected camera model Canon EOS R5 on port usb:001,001
2025-03-10T09:40:47: Driver indi_canon_ccd: Detected camera model Canon EOS R5 on port usb:000,001

But at least it's working !

Good it work with this version.

I find a way to test using a Sony compact camera, it is not really usable because it cannot download the images, but I can test the connection and taking image to the SD card.

With version 2.1.2 I get the same error with "Number of cameras detected: -4"
With 2.0.7 it detect the camera and connect, there is only one camera detected:
2025-03-10T10:15:48: Driver indi_sony_ccd: Number of cameras detected: 1.
2025-03-10T10:15:48: Driver indi_sony_ccd: Detected camera model Sony DSC-RX100M4 on port usb:001,006

So the duplicate is specific to the camera or the way it is connected or configured.
I try to make a recent version of Indi to work.

I test with the last KStars 3.7.5 and it cannot connect to the camera, same message : Number of cameras detected: -4

It seems that the second detected Canon APN is a debug version that has a Options tab to configure the debug level and options
