Summary0002846: Feature labels dissapear in AtLun 9 (and 8)
DescriptionI'm using Virtual Moon Atlas / AtLun 9.0.2025/06/11 07:34:19 (Only version 7.0 is availabe on the issue report form)

The feature labels disappear after a while. If I exit and restart the program, it works, but over time the feature labels regularly disappear. This is true for both normal labels and short labels. I usually encounter this problem when I leave the software idle or running in the background, and when I return to it, the problem occurs. The last selected feature label may remains visible until I select another feature. It reminds me of when a program loses its session or connection to the database, but that's just a thought. This problem occurs in every session, several times a day.
Steps To ReproduceI can't find the steps necessary to reproduce the problems, but occur regularly.
Additional InformationI would like to thank you for the fantastic software and all the excellent work and time you have invested in its development and maintenance! I regularly use the program to plan my observations and as my primary source of information about the Moon. I downloaded version 9 as soon as the announcement arrived in my email inbox, and I really like the improvements and new features!

Again, be sure to never restart the version 8 after you upgrade to version 9. This can break the database and the configuration. Only upgrade from 8 to 9 is supported.

When the labels disappear, please open menu Configuration, at the Display tab check if "Show label" is checked.

Thank you for pointing out to %LOCALAPPDATA% !
It looks I finally managed to reproduce the issue, and it relates to regional settings. I'm using hungarian locales. In Hungary, the default decimal separator symbol is the comma (",") character instead of the period (".", the small dot) character.
As a workaround, I can changes Windows Regional Settings/Additional settings dialog in Control Panel/Region to the period character to prevent the issue.
If I change back to comma (the default in Hungary), the issue occure. Steps:

- start up VMA
- in Configuration/Display dialog, the Show Label check box is checked
- feature labels appears normally
- leave the application in the background for a while
- feature labels dissappears after a while
- in Configuration/Display dialog, the Show Label check box is still checked
- If I quit and restart the program, the whole thing starts again: feature labels appears, and then dissapears after a short period of time
Everything works normally if the Windows decimal separator symbol is set to the period (".")
The decimal separator problem relates also to issue #2847

Also note: I'm using VMA 9 standalone, previous version 8 was uninstalled before installing version 9

Thank you for this information, I finally successfully reproduce the problem and fix it.

VMA is set to use the period as the decimal separator, all the data files use this format.
So on startup it is set to use the period, whatever the system setting, and this work.

But there is something on your system that periodically modify the system settings, this make Windows to send a message to all the running application to reset there settings, this make VMA to use the coma and since this point it fail with everything.

I make a change so VMA ignore this message and continue to use the period.

You can test the change with this version updated today:
https://vega.ap-i.net/tmp/virtualmoon/virtualmoon-9.0.1-windows.exe

Please tell me if this solve the two issues you have with that.
