| Summary | 0002847: Observatory locations are forgotten in AtLun 9 (and 8) | ||||
| Description | I user Virtual Moon Atlas / AtLun 9.0.2025/06/11 07:34:19 (the report forms shows only version 7.0) In the Configuration/General tab, in the Observatory section, the latitude and longitude coordinates are sometimes forgotten and reset to 48.86°N latitude, 2.33°E longitude, and 89 altitude. When I reset the location, the program sometimes saves the values, but sometimes I have to restart the program to set and save the coordinates. It works again for a while, but over time it forgets again and sets the above values. This problem occurs once or twice a week. | ||||
| Steps To Reproduce | I can't find the steps necessary to reproduce the problems, but occurs regularly at least twice per week during daily usage. | ||||
| Additional Information | I would like to thank you for the fantastic software and all the excellent work and time you have invested in its development and maintenance! I regularly use the program to plan my observations and as my primary source of information about the Moon. I downloaded version 9 as soon as the announcement arrived in my email inbox, and I really like the improvements and new features! | ||||

It look like you are the only one with this issue, there is probably something to search on your computer. First it is not supported to have multiple version installed, be sure you only use the version 9. Is only the observatory setting that get lost? or more setting? because everything is always read or written in block in the configuration file. The configuration file is saved when the program close and also every time a config window is closed. The configuration is saved in the user profile %LOCALAPPDATA%. Is this profile managed by some cloud like OneDrive? are you sure it not get restored to some old version? |

Thank you for pointing out to %LOCALAPPDATA% ! It looks I finally managed to reproduce the issue, and it relates to regional settings. I'm using hungarian locales. In Hungary, the default decimal separator symbol is the comma (",") character instead of the period (".", the small dot) character. As a workaround, I can changes Windows Regional Settings/Additional settings dialog in Control Panel/Region to the period character to prevent the issue. If I change back to comma (the default in Hungary), the issue occure. Steps: - Start up VMA - In VMA, Configuration dialog, General tab, Observatory section: set the latitude and longitude coordinates (e.g. latitude 47.65 and longitude -20.65, using the period as decimal separator for the program) - press OK - VMA sets the values correctly in vma.rc (Obslatitude=47.65 and Obslongitude=-20.65) - I can use VMA normally for a while - After some time, when I quit the program, the decimal separators of Obslatitude and Obslongitude values in vma.rc will change from period to comma (Obslatitude=47,65 and Obslongitude=-20,65) (as for the hungarian decima symbol) - Next I start VMA again, the observatory coordinates shows up to some default values, latitude 48.86 and longitude 2.33. (At this point, vma.rc still contains 47,65 and -20,65, but in the VMA dialog the mentioned default values are displayed) - If I quit again, these default values will save in vma.rc, overriding my custom coordinates (using a period separator, however). - If I set it again in the Configuration dialog to my values, it will store in vma.rc, but after a short period of time the issue repeats as described. A little bit strange behaviour, but I can reproduce it any time. If I change the decimal separator to the period character, everything works fine. However, my other applications (e.g. excel) will behave differently and causes problems to me as I have to use the hungarian locales (e.g. load and parse .csv files using the comma as decimal separators. The decimal separator issue relates also to issue #2846 . |

Also note: I'm using VMA 9 standalone, previous version 8 was uninstalled before installing version 9 |
