Summary0001375: Comet position and orbital parameters
DescriptionI looked at comet C/2103 A1 (Siding Spring) for Mars conjunction on October 19. The comet position is off by about half degree with respect to the MPC position and the image from Teide Observatory.
I tried to check the orbital parameters, but I did not found a way to edit them in CdC. There is the possibility to add the parameters of a new comet, but not to check and edit them for mistakes. Can you help me? Thanks
Steps To ReproduceI downloaded again the comet orbital parameters from MPC website as indicated in the Setup>Solar_System>Comet menu, with the same result.

The classic computation of a comet or asteroid position using orbital elements is not valid with the presence of a third gravitational body, Mars in this case.

The MPC element set are not wrong but not valid for the date you want to use them, so there is no need to "correct" the value.
You can try to add a new element set valid for the exact date of the photography. CdC always use the element set for the nearest date if many element are loaded for the same object.
If you make a typing error you need to fist delete the elements from the Comet/Data maintenance tab.

But the best method is probably to use the same as we do for the NEO, see:
