The difference between the two positions is because of the star proper motion. You have this star from two catalog, one with the proper motion and another without this information. The position on the right with the star display and the "t" label is from the default Hipparcos catalog, it is at the right position with the proper motion for 2015. The label "Tau Ceti" is from another catalog without the proper motion and give the location for 2000. I cannot reproduce exactly your screenshot with my catalogs. Can you give me the list of the catalog you have activated for this chart ? And what information it give if you click on this "Tau ceti" label ? |

You're right, it's proper motion. In addition, the error occurs when searching for Tau Ceti (see TauCeti.jpg). Search for Tau Cet works correctly (see TauCet.jpg). Catalog I have only one (xhip) (see TauCetCat.jpg and skychart.ini). Convergence of Tau Ceti and Tau Cet in 1991 year (see TauCetCat.jpg). |

This is not possible to fix when using catalog with different proper motion information. The important point is the search function send to the correct location of XHIP with proper motion for the current date. |
