Summary0001944: New detail map of Jupiter (Juno mission) ?
DescriptionSince Juno is for a while now in the Jupiter's orbit, it is more than logical that someone finally attempt to make a detail map. This is recently made by Bjorn Jonsson and perhaps worth to look at at least.

Hi Sasa,

Thank you for the information, this new map is really nice.
I will probably use it for the next version of the Virtual Planet Atlas, but I am not sure how useful it is for Skychart because the improvement are on the Pole area that are not visible from Earth. For the part visible from Earth this is the very detailed, but low contrast, Cassini image.

I formatted this image for use with Skychart, with the GRS on the border of the image, and also refresh the HST/Opal image with the 2017 version.

You can test them by replacing the file data/planet/jupiter.jpg , also be sure to delete the cache directories in ~/.skychart/tmp
Personally I still have a preference for the HST image.

I'm glad If the info and the map is suitable for Virtual Planet Atlas. Perhaps, this issue can be moved there.

Yes, for Skychart, detail polar regions are not essential. Even these bands can be used to make complete map after fixing contrast and color in HST image, since there is no need for it in Skychart, it is certainly not worth of effort.

This issue may be closed.

I moved the issue to Virtual Planet.
For Skychart I will update the Jupiter map with the HST 2017.
