Summary | 0002564: Send Chart Center Coordinates
Description | I often use Skychart to frame a target using the CCD rectangle, moving/rotating it as needed, but I haven't found a way to send the center of the *chart* (i.e. the CCD rectangle) to, for example, CCDCiel or Aladin; I seem to only be able to send the coordinates of where I've clicked on screen or, of course, by first selecting a specific target or star and sending those coords. One option of course is to display the chart coordinates, but this means manually copying the RA/Dec into whatever tool I'm using for imaging. A second option that I've been using instead is (after connecting all tools via SAMP) clicking within Aladin so the point and chart position are simultaneously updated within Skychart, until the object is framed as needed. I then use New Target within CCDCiel to pull in the RA/Dec via SAMP. It works, but it's much more tedious. If I'm missing an option somewhere I'd be extremely grateful if it were pointed out, otherwise this would be a very useful feature for, I suspect, anyone framing an image.

Yes it can be useful in many case to send other than cursor coordinates to SAMP. I make a change to add a submenu to make possible to send cursor, selected object or chart center coordinates. Then change is in the same test version 4.3-4564 I mention in your other report. Personally I prefer to use the Mosaic tool ( right click menu / Finder circles / Mosaic) to frame any image. Just set the mosaic size to 1x1 for a single image. |

Thanks, Patrick. Confirmed 4.3.4564 has the new chart option - thank you! I've used the Mosaic option as well, and it works, but I believe my only option is to save the mosaic file then import as a sequence into CCDCiel. If that's not quite right then then I have to set things up again in the mosaic tool as it doesn't allow re-importing of an earlier mosaic file (at least not that I've been able to find); and working with a sequence while framing isn't ideal, either. For some reason the 'send to server' option doesn't seem to work with CCDCiel - possibly I'm doing something wrong. Sending the chart center, check, reframe, repeat, works really well. Thanks again for such a quick response. |

You can send the mosaic directly to CCDciel by the server interface but it require the planetarium in CCDciel to be set to Skychart, not SAMP. Yes at the moment the mosaic cannot be reloaded and modified, and it require the interface with the sequence. The direct center coordinates are probably better for the way you do it. |
