This is probably possible because there is a class for that in the tcp/ip library I use:
http://synapse.ararat.cz/doc/help/blcksock.TSocksBlockSocket.html

But it will probably take ages before I find the time and motivation to implement it because of the very limited use.

Do you try to use a proxifier ?

I understand that the implementation of this feature is not a priority, but I though I could ask in case it could be implemented easily as the program already supports a HTTP proxy. I tried downloading the latest orbital elements using a socks proxy and it failed, I did not try a proxifier.

OK, what would cost me too much time is testing as I need to install, configure and understand a Socks server.

What I suggest is I do an implementation as I think it should work and you do the testing on your Socks environment.

For next Monday beta version it will have a Socks check box in the Internet setting. Check it and enter you Socks proxy host, port, type, user, password.
Then save your setting.
If you are not sure about the type try both Socks4 and Socks5.

For this week the only download that use this new setting is Solar System / Comet / Load MPC file.
Click Download and take a note of the messages and report them here.

I entered the socks proxy (IP address), port (number) and type (Socks5) without a username or password.

For the comet MPC file it seems to be working and connection is made through the proxy.

For the asteroid MPC file, it is not working as it bypasses the proxy settings and tries to connect directly.

OK, thank you for testing. I am puzzled it work right on the first try.
I will add the support for all the other download for next week.
