Summary | 0001359: Filtering stars by means of field number does not seem to work for external catalog
Description | After installing the UCAC4 catalogs (stars up to mag 16), i cannot have the FOV-based filtering mechanism to work properly. Attached file cdc-snap1.jpg shows a field of 30'. According to settings shown in cdc-snap2.jpg, stars of these catalogs should not be displayed (the max field number for them is 3, i.e. range 2-5'). I checked the "Filter Objects" settings (see cdc-snap3.jpg). I modify the latter to perform a manual filtering, as shown in cdc-snap4.jpg. But, after applying this change, i get the display shown in cdc-snap5.jpg where, obviously, all stars up to mag16 are displayed. So either i'm completely missing the point in using the FOV-filtering mechanism, either something does work with these catalogs (the mechanism works ok for builtin cats)

I think you misunderstood the FOV units. Field number 3 range from 2 degree to 5 degree, not arcminute. A 30' FOV is in the field number 0 by default (range from 0 to 0.5 degree), and the magnitude cannot be limited in field 0, by definition this smallest field always show all the objects. What you need to do is to change the field number definition from Setup / Chart, coordinates / Field of vision. Change the value in the first column for field 1 to 0.01 instead of 0.5. Now field number 1 range is from 0.01 to 1 degree. After that you can change the magnitude as in cdc-snap4, for field 1 replace 99 by 14 for example. Can you confirm here if this solve the problem? |

You're right, i thought the FOV was in arcmin. Now it works. Sorry for the disturbance. I should have read the manual more carefully. Merci ! |

Pas de problème, je suis conscient que c'est pas évident avec toutes ces options. |
