Having reviewed previous ticket 1334 - I can confirm that I have tried resetting config files via the File menu and the error persists. |
|
For me this only occurred after windows went through some updates. And it seems to have happened to both my laptops. I've also have gone through with the reset and it still occurs. |

I was getting the same thing and Im running 7, but what was happening was in the registry. It does not clean itself out all the way when you uninstall old version. And if you have not done this, you may find it helpful to do so. Even check your own paths on c drive. Then reinstall the 3.10 again. But first remove ciel programs all from uninstall. Then go in the registry yourself and remove folders if you do know how. Once all those old files were gone from my registry, and also old folders of old version, and in c drive, all users, i then reinstalled and it has been ok and fine ever since.. As to the real reason why, I cannot tell you. I am not the programmer. We are running both 7 home premium, and ultimate, versions op, and are fine on both machines with the 3.10 was using 3.4 PS, you may also wish to get removal on other registry items using a good registry editor. This may help clean up dll things of manifest so that they do not cross react against each other. We use the free version of a registry editor, there is a couple that are ok decent out there, but if you can do so manually, it is best. But if you do not know your registry, and never have done this, my suggest is not to touch it yourself. From start button under the run slot type in regedit to look at your registry. We use Vit Registry Fix 9.5 and its seems ok. Run that after you uninstall, and then reinstall. you may Try gettin it at fileguru. It will take a backup first before it touches your registry, and saves it, in case you need it for some reason that it did not work out... |

I make more testing with XP, 7, 8 and 10 virtual machine but I can never get this error. Even if I remove all the user right to the skychart data directory I get another error message about the database before to get this one. It can help if you can run the program in debug mode to get some information about which resource is denied the access. Please install the last beta version from http://sourceforge.net/projects/skychart/files/0-beta/2015-08-10/ Then install the debug files and run as describe in this page: http://sourceforge.net/projects/skychart/files/0-beta/debug/2015-08-10/ Copy here the result of the gdb bt command. |

Update. Its seems that the 'access denied' problem has seemed to have corrected itself. Weather it was a windows problem and the recent updates have cured this or the registry programs used to clear the registry has got rid of any incorrect registry entry's. But the beta program has installed and is working - even the extra databases have not affected it, so fingers crossed for my other laptop. Thanks |
