problem does not depend from Kernel: 5.6.0-050600rc2-generic i have the same problem also with kernel 5.4.0-14-generic and don't have the message about invalid UTF-8 corrado@corrado-p3-ff-0217:~$ atlun Gtk-Message: 14:35:43.529: Failed to load module "canberra-gtk-module" Init OpenGL Check Acceleration Check texture size Texture max: 16384 Check Bumpmap Driver: INTEL MESA INTEL(R) HD GRAPHICS 630 (KBL GT2) GL_ARB_texture_env_dot3 OK GL_ARB_fragment_program OK SetBumpMethod Check MultiTexture InitLabel InitSprite Init OpenGL OK corrado@corrado-p3-ff-0217:~$ inxi -SCGxx System: Host: corrado-p3-ff-0217 Kernel: 5.4.0-14-generic x86_64 bits: 64 compiler: gcc v: 9.2.1 Desktop: Gnome 3.34.3 wm: gnome-shell dm: GDM3 Distro: Ubuntu 20.04 LTS (Focal Fossa) CPU: Topology: Dual Core model: Intel Core i3-7100 bits: 64 type: MT MCP arch: Kaby Lake rev: 9 L2 cache: 3072 KiB flags: avx avx2 lm nx pae sse sse2 sse3 sse4_1 sse4_2 ssse3 vmx bogomips: 31199 Speed: 800 MHz min/max: 800/3900 MHz Core speeds (MHz): 1: 800 2: 800 3: 800 4: 801 Graphics: Device-1: Intel HD Graphics 630 vendor: ASRock driver: i915 v: kernel bus ID: 00:02.0 chip ID: 8086:5912 Display: x11 server: X.Org 1.20.7 driver: i915 compositor: gnome-shell resolution: 1920x1080~60Hz OpenGL: renderer: Mesa Intel HD Graphics 630 (KBL GT2) v: 4.6 Mesa 20.0.0 direct render: Yes corrado@corrado-p3-ff-0217:~$ problem occurs with both sessions X11 and Wayland |
It is not clear from the screenshot if the problem is only the fonts or if the moon has no texture at all. Can you disable the phase display so we better see the moon surface. |
The moon has no texture at all thanks |

Same problem on a different hardware corrado@corrado-HP-p5-ff-0303:~$ inxi -SCGx System: Host: corrado-HP-p5-ff-0303 Kernel: 5.4.0-14-generic x86_64 bits: 64 compiler: gcc v: 9.2.1 Desktop: Gnome 3.35.91 Distro: Ubuntu 20.04 LTS (Focal Fossa) CPU: Topology: Dual Core model: Intel Core i5-4210U bits: 64 type: MT MCP arch: Haswell rev: 1 L2 cache: 3072 KiB flags: avx avx2 lm nx pae sse sse2 sse3 sse4_1 sse4_2 ssse3 vmx bogomips: 19156 Speed: 1541 MHz min/max: 800/2700 MHz Core speeds (MHz): 1: 1197 2: 1198 3: 1197 4: 1197 Graphics: Device-1: Intel Haswell-ULT Integrated Graphics vendor: Hewlett-Packard driver: i915 v: kernel bus ID: 00:02.0 Display: x11 server: X.Org 1.20.7 driver: i915 resolution: 1366x768~60Hz OpenGL: renderer: Mesa DRI Intel HD Graphics 4400 (HSW GT2) v: 4.5 Mesa 20.0.0 direct render: Yes corrado@corrado-HP-p5-ff-0303:~$ |

So the common point is Mesa 20.0 This is strange because at the moment I see this issue only with some version of Nvidia driver. With Nvidia the problem is solved in all the case by compiling the driver with the option specified here: https://www.ap-i.net/avp/en/nvidia_linux Do you know if Mesa as a similar option to not use glvnd ? |
I don't know if Mesa as a similar option, I will try to find out. Mesa 20.0 could be guilty because on the same PC different partition i don't ave the problem with Mesa 19.2.8 corrado@corrado-p6-eoan-1017:~$ inxi -SCG System: Host: corrado-p6-eoan-1017 Kernel: 5.3.0-40-generic x86_64 bits: 64 Desktop: Gnome 3.34.1 Distro: Ubuntu 19.10 (Eoan Ermine) CPU: Topology: Dual Core model: Intel Core i3-7100 bits: 64 type: MT MCP L2 cache: 3072 KiB Speed: 800 MHz min/max: 800/3900 MHz Core speeds (MHz): 1: 800 2: 801 3: 801 4: 800 Graphics: Device-1: Intel HD Graphics 630 driver: i915 v: kernel Display: x11 server: X.Org 1.20.5 driver: i915 resolution: 1920x1080~60Hz OpenGL: renderer: Mesa DRI Intel HD Graphics 630 (Kaby Lake GT2) v: 4.5 Mesa 19.2.8 corrado@corrado-p6-eoan-1017:~$ |
