| Description | When SkyChart is starting-up it displays splash window "Cartes du Ciel". This splash window is annoying because on my slow PC it takes several seconds to make Skychart to start-up. In the time between starting and finish starting I usually do some other thinks, but splash window of Skychart makes that impossible. I suggest to disable splash window and make it just like Firefox has - it only uses "Starting..." note in task bar, no splashes etc, so people can work in the mean time program is starting. | ||||

Instead of totally disable splash window, you can use hide window when other program gets focus. The same approach has OpenOffice and Gimp for example - when they start-up and other program gets focus splash window gets behind current window having focus. |

You can totally remove the splash screen with the option –nosplash. See http://www.ap-i.net/skychart/en/documentation/line_commands But I agree with your idea to hide it if another application get the focus. |

Patrick, I have tried the following command from Terminal (Ubuntu 8.10): skychart –nosplash but splash window is still displayed. It looks this option does not have any effect. |

sorry the double minus signe do not display correctly both here and in the documentation. I have updated the documentation now. You have to type twice the minus key before nosplash. Also to hide the splash window you can now double click on it. |
