| Description | The current build 1387 doesn't work anymore in Win98SE! 1) At the very first start (after installation) the worldmap for selecting the location is completely black. 2) On every further start the program crashes with an error message "Initialization error: failed to get raw image from bitmap". If I click 'Abort' the program quits but stays in memory and has to be killed by the taskmanager. If I click 'Ok' the program continues but shows no graphics at all, just an empty grey program window with the menues but nothing in the sky area. The previous build was still working. | ||||

I've now made a complete system restore (just Win98SE, IE6, DX9) and the problem still exists, only the error message has changed to "Initialization error: Access violation"! And one further info: This problem happens only on Win98SE, on my much older notebook with Win98FE (1st edition) it's running properly, but here I've installed many more programs! Really strange ... |

I cannot reproduce the problem. The build 1387 work fine on my Win98 SE version 4.10.2222.A with 64MB memory. Can you do more try: - disable graphic hardware acceleration - without IE6 and DX9 |

Ok, I've reduced the graphic hardware acceleration down to zero: no success! Also deinstalling IE6 didn't change anything, but why should it? And DX9 (DirectX9) can't be deinstalled. Since the previous Skychart development version works (with DX9) and also on my old notebook with Win98FE I've installed DX9 and the current version 1387 is working here, it must have another reason. But only YOU know what you've changed in this new release that might cause this new problem. |

Ok, I cannot continue to support such an obsolete system. - Main web page is updated to redirect to version 2.76 for this system. - revision 1407 remove all win98 specific code. - Next week installer will run only on Win2000 and higher. |

Well, with todays release 1406 this problem has disappeared again, now it's working fine again in both Win98 versions (FE and SE). So it seems that it has just been a temporary problem only with the last release, and of course it would definitely be NOT A GOOD IDEA to completely remove Win98 support just now, where all bugs I've reported in the past under Win98 have successfully been fixed with this 1406 version! |

LOL! Yesterday I updated the compiler and library to the last version and it look like they just fixed the problem. The problem was probably this one: http://bugs.freepascal.org/view.php?id=17234 This is on system with 16 bits per pixel display (thousand color). So probably your working computer was using 24 or 32 bits display (million color) So I will put the win98 code back :-) |
