Spectral Profile
When you use a spectrograph to image a spectrum it can be useful to quickly show the profile. This immediately give a better idea of what we get, and allow to check for a risk of saturation in some part of the spectra, specifically in emission lines.
If the tool is not visible you can select it from the Display menu. By default it is located in the Focus tab when using a single column.
Select if you want to show the average or maximum values, then press the button Select area.
Mark the horizontal area you want on the image by pressing the Shift key + Left button and move the mouse.
You can quickly select a full width area with a double click at the spectra position.
If required the scale is show in thousand ADU to save space.
The profile can be opened in a separate window with a click on the button
on the top right.
The scale is show in ADU and pixel position because this is totally uncalibrated.
When you move the mouse over the graph it show the position and the spectra value, average or maximum, at this position.
It is possible to zoom on a part of the spectra with the mouse left button and move the position with the right button.
